THE GOVERNING BODY EXPOSED
by bj in"through the ages the lavish wealth of religion that profess christianity has disturbed many people.
popes, bishops, and other religious dignitaries have lived in splendor supported by their flocks, many of whom have existed in poverty.
the situation has not changed in modern times.

Super Bowl parties are worldly... there's drug use, drinking, and loose conduct. Christians should exercise great care not to find themselves entrapped in such activities. As an alternative to the Super Bowl, why not consider wholesome gatherings with JW friends where more refreshing activities can take place, such as re-enacting a scene from the Bible. Many JW families have found this to be a much more enjoyable way to spend their "Super Bowl Sunday".
Consider the example of Steve and Selma. When Selma expressed her concern to Steve about his obsession with football, Steve hit Selma in a violent rage. In fact, every time Selma brought up this subject, it irritated Steve and he'd end up breaking things around the house or hitting Selma. Then, one Super Bowl Sunday, Selma simply invited some sisters over for a quiet gathering while Steve watched the Super Bowl in the next room. When Steve got up to get a beer, he noticed his wife Selma and the sisters she invited having a pleasant time talking about the new publications from the last District Assembly. Steve then stopped watching the Super Bowl after half time and turned off the TV so he can hear what all the quiet chatter was about. When he heard about God's purpose for mankind, he became very "interested".
Today, 17 years later, Steve is now an elder in Selma's congregation and no longer talks about football or any other sport. When asked about this, Steve said: "My only Sport is my race to paradise". What a fine example of how an abused JW wife can bring her abusive football-loving husband into the truth.
We will all do well in asking ourselves: "Am I needlessly obsessed with worldly activities such as a Super Bowl party?"

Who was the FDS from 1931 till Rutherford died ???
by Phizzy inin 1931 rutherford disbanded the editorial team that russell had stipulated in his will.
this was so that they would not interfere with rutherfords flow of marvellous spiritual gobbits.. so, from 1931 until his death (1942?
), rutherford's pen alone produced the w.t output of doctrine.. so, he must have, alone, been the fds for those years, no one else was performing the function that the noo lite says is done by the fds during those years..

Interesting Phizzy... I didn't know that... If this were true, then there really was no FDS (or GB) between '31 and '42 since the current "Nu-Lite" definition of FDS is: "A governing body that works together to dispense spiritual food at the appropriate time"
So, by the Watchtower's own "Nu-Lite" definition, there has to be a "body" (more than 2 people?) working together to dispense this "spiritual food" since one person working alone is NOT considered a body.
It appears the Watchtower has some serious explaining to do. First they say that the FDS existed perpetually since 33AD and that one generation of this FDS fed the next generation until the present day... Then they finally realize that most people aren't that stupid so they decide to use 1918/1919 as a starting point (still incredible but slightly more credible than 33AD) and limit them to two overlapping generations (even though Jesus only mentioned one). Now they apparently have an 11-year gap unaccounted for... So when Jesus mentioned the word "generation" he evidently meant two (2) overlapping generations with an 11-year gap in the 1st generation...
They really do make this shit up as they go along, don't they?

Just What Is The WT Up To Now?
by lovelylil inhas anyone heard about what is going on inside the organization these days regarding those who claim to be "anointed" christians?
i have had at least three different people now who live in different areas of the country tell me that the elders are systematically pushing out people who claim to have become anointed within the last few years.
these would be younger ones who are now professing the heavenly rather than earthly hope.. i find this interesting for several reasons.

6 years later, we now know the answer to the poster's question...
- May 2007... Heavenly Gates (closed since 1935) have been re-opened due to the deaths of all GB members born before 1935.
- October 2012... Only the Governing Body can call itself the Faithful & Discreet Slave... all other annointed have been stripped of their FDS status.
End result... the GB 2.0... a more divine entity with unyielding power and influence.

Blood transfusion: Letter of Understanding
by Marvin Shilmer inblood transfusion: letter of understanding .
today i added a new article to my blog that to the best of my knowledge is the first publication of a document put together for jehovahs witnesses by medical ethicists in cooperation with watchtower appointed hospital liaison committee members.
this document is very helpful in medical terms yet very explosive in theological terms for jehovahs witnesses whove been taught to resist blood transfusion as rape.

"In an emergency, where your child is apparently experiencing severe suffering or is at risk, if the treatment is not administered promptly, of sustaining serious bodily harm, medical staff will provide treatment that is allowed by the law; which may include blood transfusion."
A typical JW will likely dismiss this statement by responding: "Yeah but Jehovah will not let the situation get that far if your faith is strong enough. Besides, if the Slave permits this letter of understanding to exist, they must know that Jehovah will provide." ...
There's no getting through the thick head of a well-indoctrinated JW.

Will the 'Make Good Use of Our Official Website' discussion backfire?
by jw07 ingood day everyone,.
i'm a born in jehovah's hostage, and am still a hostage until i can wake my family up (wishful thinking i know).
i'll formally introduce myself later.. for now i have some burning concerns about the service meeting part for the week of december 24, 2012.

I like the idea of using search engine meta-tags to "redirect" those who tend to window-shop before they buy... but fully indoctrinated JWs have already been thoroughly warned to use JW.org as their starting point (not Google)... but it's a good start... it may even plant a seed now and then...

Our Spiritual Heritage
by BlindersOff1 in"our spiritual heritage".
trying to find the watchtower reference in the last couple of yrs to the value of researching old wt publications.. .
anyone know it or a good search term to find it.
-
Calebs Airplane
The Society knows that very few JWs are going to read these older publications... They really just want to clear out their old liter-a-trash and hopefully generate some revenue at the same time (assuming the friends don't forget to drop in a few dollars before walking away with their "spiritual treasures")...

The Gentile Times Reconsidered (607 B.C.E.) -Part A1 - Jeremiah 25:10-12 Reviewed
by FaceTheFacts induring the last three to four months, i have spent a great deal of time sinking my teeth into various critical biblical commentaries and lexicons.
naturally, after beginning to research "the truth about the truth" one of the most commonplace yet controversial arguments revolve around the "gentile times" doctrine (i.e.
the application of the seven times of daniel 4 from 607 b.c.e.

FaceThe Facts...
Here's a brief history lesson for ya...
- In the early 1820's, a strange fellow by the name of John Aquila Brown took a few Bible texts completely out of context and came up with an absurd speculative calculation (360 X 7 = 2,520) in a half-assed attempt to detemine the length of the Gentile Times.
- A few decades later, leaders of several "dooms-day" religions, including the Adventists read "The Even Tide" (1823) by John Aquila Brown and saw an opportunity to cash in on some well-organized fear-mongering campaigns. This was the beginning of the Armageddon craze.
- Charles Taze Russell liked what he saw and wanted a piece of this action. So he jumped on the band wagon but decided to create his own unique product so he searched for Bible texts to take out of context and created an incredibly embarrassing list of new doctrines which has taken the Watchtower over 100 years to clean up albeit they're still stuck with quite a few.
- Some of these religions even pointed to particular years such as 1913, 1915, 1917, etc.
- Charles Taze Russell decided to go with October 1914.
- Obviously, Armageddon didn't arrive in 1913, 1915, 1917 or even the Bible Student's date of October 1914. So all of these religions decided to abandon this completely unauthorized calculation (Acts 1:7). But Russell saw an opportunity to clean up his mess by simply latching on to World War I (which really started in July 1914... not October 1914) and then simply used a phrase that is still in use by the Watchtower Corporation today... "Current Understanding".
- The phrase "current understanding" along with Proverb 4:18 soon became the Jehovah Witnesses free pass to change their flawed doctrines and failed predictions at will.
- While all of this was ongoing, the Bible Students certainly DID NOT expect Jesus to return in 1914 (as the WT would have the rank & file believe today) as they were taught in no ambiguous terms that he had already returned in 1874 and it wasn't until the late 1920's that Rutherford decided to move 1874 to 1914.
- Fast forward to 2010... Governing Body member Anthony Morris III (in the DVD "Faith In Action") stated: "The fact that they (the Bible Students) were able to pinpoint that year is just phenomenal" giving credit to the Bible Students for the 2,520-year calculation even though it really originated with John Aquila Brown and NOTHING that was predicted by the Bible Students actually came true. This DVD even states on TWO (2) occasions that the Bible Students looked to 1914 decades in advance as the year that Jesus would return. Obviously, this is completely and utterly false as is plainly evident in WT publications printed before the 1920's.
FaceThe Facts... Before asking anyone to face any more facts, you really need to get your hands on early WT literature and determine whether or not the Watchtower has been grossly misrepresenting these "facts"
